Results from Pakistan’s parliamentary elections are in, and they are not in president Pervez Musharraf’s favor.

Musharraf’s supporters in the parliament were booted out by voters who cast their ballots in favor of smaller parties and independent candidates. The slain former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s party also did well, along with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s party.

The PML-Q, the main Musharraf-supporting party, conceded defeat. Musharraf has a tough road ahead of him, however, with a hostile public that isn’t happy with his policies and a parliament that reflects that.

He has been doing damage control to his reputation recently and has displayed impatience when faced with doubts about his leadership, which is set to last five years after October’s controversial presidential elections.
